Congressional Nominations: U.S. Congressmen may
nominate qualified student to the U.S. Military Academy at West
Point, New York; the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland;
the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colorado; and the
U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point. Long Island, New
York. Each academy awards a B.S. degree and graduates become
commissioned regular officers in their respective services.

U.S. Coast Guard: The U.S. Coast Guard appoints qualified students as cadets at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut. Upon completion of a four-year course of study, a student receives a B.S. degree and commission as an Ensign in the U.S. Coast Guard. Candidates are selected on the basis of competitive examinations. Reserve Officers Training Corps [ROTC]: Scholarship
assistance is available to qualified students enrolling in either
two-or four-year ROTC programs at participating colleges and
universities. Scholarships provide tuition, textbook allowance,
lab fees, and a monthly subsistence allowance.
ROTC programs require military obligations of varying length
after students graduate from college. Requirements vary from
program to program, but generally students must by U.S. citizens
and high school seniors or college students, at least 17 years of
age, and enrolled or planning to enroll at an institution of
higher learning where a ROTC program is offered.
